So I went to the DC Unity March for PR and it was…eh. Of the speakers I heard, at least ten, not one mentioned independence - not one! Some talked about our status as a colony but only one person even used the word colony. And since it was led by the Hispanic Federation no one said shit about PROMESA. And then they sang the anthem but like the anthem talks about columbus and I’m like 🖐🏽
Like yeah it was dope to be around other boricuas and sing and scream about how much we love our island but politically it was lacking. They demanded the end of the Jones Act and cancelling the debt but if connections can’t be made to the status of the island as a colony of the US and what US imperialism has done to the land and people of Puerto Rico then the calls for action don’t ring true, and like a few bad ass two minute speeches don’t make up for that gap in organizing. But idk if that makes me one of those trash people that complain about shit but don’t do nothing about it (it probably does) but I think if certain groups are removed (thehispanicfederation) then we could actually have like a really fucking radical ass protest.
lin manuel miranda was there too and I was unimpressed.
(Side note sometimes to hype the crowd they would say something exciting right but then play like the air horn sound effect and I was crying 😂 like wtf is happening right now)
